Warren St. Marks Community Garden

In the early ’80s, the Warren Street and St. Marks Community Gardens between 4th and 5th Avenues were transformed from vacant lots full of debris into working community gardens by the mostly Black and Hispanic communities of the surrounding Park Slope neighborhood.

After being saved from the auction, these gardens were joined to create a single block-through garden, unique to this and other neighborhoods, and renamed the Warren St. Marks Community Garden.

With its generous gathering space and large, neat vegetable boxes joined by a serpentine path, the garden has hosted numerous block association gatherings, movie nights, community barbecues, sponsored activities for children, and created educational opportunities in association with Brooklyn Botanical Gardens’ Green Bridge Program. A true highlight of our garden are our chickens!

The mission of the garden is to advance gardening opportunities for its members and to make their neighborhood attractive and a fun place to be.
